We're leaving for a week of vacationing in Maine. This morning. Yesterday I really ought to have been packing.
No, instead of doing laundry and cleaning my room and packingpackingpacking, I chose to sew a new purse. To my credit, I've been needing one. I've been going around for several years with my old Vera Bradley purse which is lovely but distinctly tattered around the edges now. My mom pointed out recently that I might get myself a new purse, which would be better advertising than the shabby one I've been toting lately. I considered it, hemmed, hawed, deliberated, regretted even considering betraying my loyal Vera, and finally decided to knit myself one. Well, that didn't go quite as planned, because I didn't do a swatch ahead of time (gasp!), so it's dreadfully wide and shallow. Hmmm. So yesterday, I decided to hunker down and sew until I had myself a new purse.
I pulled out a few fabrics I especially love (from Jo-Ann's; does anyone know of any good independently owned fabric stores in Connecticut?), my trusty ruler, and got to work. I cut, sewed, ironed, quilted, sewed some more, and finally had my Sasha purse. The fabric I chose for the outer purse is in my absolute favorite color right now: a sort of mustardy yellow that is enormously cheerful but also delightfully vintage in feel. I may need to wash it more because it's not an especially dark color, but it expresses exactly what I hoped it would, so I'm content. I did the quilting using my machine and my latest love: sparkly sparkly silver thread. It's so pretty and it's subtle but I know that I've got sparkle on my bag and I WILL CELEBRATE! :)
Now of course, I couldn't just stop at that point, clean up, and pack for vacation. No, the silly wonders continued. I then proceeded to make a new coordinating wallet and business card case! World, look out---Louisa is going forth in style.
The purse took forever to make, but you know, the wallet and business card case didn't take all that long. Now I'm seriously considering making a few of them for my shop. I don't think I'd need to charge too much, and they're so sweet!
Now then... have a wonderful weekend! I'm bringing my computer on vacation and will try to get internet connection with which to share more beauty I find. In the meantime...
Keep on sparkling!
